Justine Toussaint is my (Darlene's) cousin from New Orleans. She is a descendant
of people who, at one time in the city, were called creoles of color. Nowadays
they are simply called creoles. They are African American people, who have
a certain lineage and culture in New Orleans and other areas in Louisiana.
Today being creole can best be described as a state of mind and heritage.
It means being Catholic, attending catholic schools all your life,
growing up hearing French creole phrases like "marraine" or "compere".
It means cooking a mean gumbo, participating in a debutante ball (young
ladies), and eating king cake for Mardi Gras. Of course there's a lot more
to being Creole but, I don't have time to write it all here. If you wanna
know more then click here.
Now then, here in New Orleans these creole girls always seem to get all
the guys because they have light skin (usually). So, normally I wouldn't
put someone like Justine on here but, since she's my cousin and, I love
her to death, I'm giving her her own picture page. So, I hope you enjoy
this little experiment. So, without further delay, here is Jane Toussaint
in her first ever pictorial page! You go girl!
